Historic moment in Austin, TX- Friday May 25, 2018:

Native Austinite Geno Gottschall EP release at Green Mesquite BBQ on Barton Springs Rd.

When Geno was born his family lived at 1104 Robert E. Lee right across the street from Barton Springs Pool. Old-time pickers Steve Fromholtz, Riley Osbourne, and Gary P. Nunn regularly visited his parents there and had jam sessions with his dad Mark T Gottschall (also an Austin musician).

Growing up in Barton Hills surrounded by Austin legends like Roky Erickson, Marcia Ball, and Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan and working out at Big Steve's gym as a teenager with Christopher Layton and Ian Moore, Geno's pedigree in Austin music is unmatched.

Geno began taking piano and voice lessons at age 7, but the tuba was his specialty in middle school and beyond, playing in the Austin High Band and Longhorn Band and graduating from UT with a degree in music. He has played tuba in the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble, Austin Symphonic Band, Waterloo Wind Ensemble (of which he was also the associate director), and continues to play with funky NOLA band Gumbo Ya Ya.

In high school, Geno learned to play the guitar and bass and began writing songs. He and writing partner Denise Hudson performed in coffee shops (as that was the thing to do at the time). They went on to form a band with their brothers Mikey Gaucho (Michael), Steve Hudson, and high school friend and guitar player Christian Scott. Anchorheads played their first gigs at Steamboat on 6th St. opening up for Bob Schneider and MC Overlord and recorded an as yet unreleased album at Pedernales studio.

Later Geno went on to play with Sumner Erickson & the Texcentrics and Austin's FIRST New Orleans style brass band Austin Knights Brass Band

Finally, after working as the director of Choir, Orchestra, Guitar, Piano, Mariachi, and Musical Theater at Lanier High School he has set out on his own to fulfill his lifelong dream of recording original music and making a living making music.

Of course, pretty much everything Geno has ever done is musical: from performing worship music in his church and conducting Bible School Choirs, to spending time as a bar back, doorman, and dance instructor at the world famous Broken Spoke, writing and arranging film scores, to working in music stores and even owning and managing his own (now legendary) store Gott Music. He even arranged music for his own wedding complete with members of the Lanier Choir and Orchestra performing with his professional musician friends!

This EP spans Geno's life work to date: from the old Anchorheads days to brand new ones as well. With Mikey Gaucho on guitar, Andy Garsea on bass, Buddy Forsythe on drums. Recording assisted by Stuart Sullivan and mastered by Jerry Tubb.

These songs are a tribute to the original Rock and Roll legends of the 1950s: Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and so many more. This is where Rock and Roll started. And this is just the beginning...

Come celebrate the release of Geno's EP Friday May 25th at The Green Mesquite!
